New York 2015

Visit to New York City during winter of 2015, almost two full years after my last visit. The Lexington Avenue Subway line was slow and crowded as usual, but it was nice to see some of the smaller venues like the Cooper Hewitt Museum.

Chicago flashback

Culled my old photo collections looking for more Chicago architecture and landmarks to display. Some things will always be the same to me. No matter how many times it is called the Willis Tower I will always refer to it as the Sears Tower. One thing I do miss about Chicago is the historic character of it. Whenever I go around Toronto I can’t shake the feeling that the city only really came into existence in the 1960s and 70s. The rough around the edges nature of the Chicago L is just one of the things that shows just how old the city is. The brick flats are another iconic example of Chicago that I have not found in the places I have lived since.

The Freighter Arrives

Decided to head south one day for my nightly walk and noticed that the Michigan Ave lift bridge was up. Headed over quickly and got to see my second lake freighter since I arrived in Buffalo. I’ve always been more interested in trains and boats than trucks since they are more efficient at moving large quantities. After waiting for the Herbert C Jackson of the Interlake Steamship Company to clear the bridge, I quickly made my way to the Ohio Street lift bridge just in time to see the freighter approach. The Jackson finally docked in Elevator Alley at the ADM facility. It’s kind of sad how much this country has declined industrially in the last 50 years. Even the working ADM plant is not in the best shape these days.

There, in Delaware

Enjoyed some of the summer preview temperatures in spring by going up to Delaware Park to do some exploring. Decided to focus on some of the details in this park and the surrounding neighbourhood. I took this opportunity to try experimenting some more with depth of field.

Saturday Morning

First time in ages that I got up early on Saturday, so I decided to take advantage of the morning sun and photograph downtown Buffalo in the morning. The nice low sun hitting the buildings squarely really brings out their features and makes them radiant. I also have decided to start seeking out the numerous ghost signs in Buffalo, a nice snapshot and occasional humorous of the past since some signs are decades old. Downtown was happened to be very busy this particular morning with a charity walk, flooding the city with an unheard of number of people for a Saturday morning.
